Desire Rome-Trieste 2028 aboard Oceania Allura

This is one of those itineraries where the cruise itself and the ports are equally compelling. Desire’s 2028 sailing begins September 9 in Civitavecchia, the cruise port for Rome, and ends September 16 in Trieste after stops in southern Italy, Greece, Montenegro and Croatia.

The ship is Oceania Allura, a 2025-built, 68,000-ton vessel designed for about 1,200 guests. That gives Desire a very different setting from a large mainstream megaship: upscale dining, spacious veranda accommodations and a more intimate onboard scale, but still enough venues for daytime pool energy, nighttime parties, workshops and private adult spaces.

For us, the appeal is the balance. You can spend the day walking through a UNESCO old town or exploring the Amalfi Coast, come back for dinner and a theme night, and then wake up to another completely different Mediterranean or Adriatic destination.

What to expect on Desire Rome-Trieste 2028

Desire takes a luxury cruise ship and changes the social atmosphere completely. The 2028 sailing is built around adults and couples who want a more open, sensual cruise while still having the restaurants, service, accommodations and port access of Oceania Allura.

2028 Desire experiences already confirmed

  • Nightly themed parties, with a new elevated theme planned each evening.
  • Daytime pool parties with music, cocktails and a highly social atmosphere.
  • Interactive couples workshops and seminars led by Desire’s lifestyle experts, called Sexperts.
  • Designated clothing-optional pool and sun-deck areas.
  • A couples-only playroom.
  • Seven nights aboard Oceania Allura.
  • One full sea day between Salerno and Corfu.
  • Six destination days between embarkation in Civitavecchia and arrival in Trieste.
  • Oceania dining venues, bars and lounges throughout the ship.
  • Prestige Select Beverage Package listed as included for this sailing.

The individual 2028 theme names have not been published yet. We will update them when Desire releases the official list instead of carrying over themes from another cruise.

Why this Desire sailing is different from a normal Mediterranean cruise

The social atmosphere

A normal cruise may have hundreds of couples sharing a ship without ever talking. Desire builds the week around connection, parties, workshops and a community that already understands why everyone is there.

The ship

Allura is a newer, smaller luxury ship with about 1,200 guests, a strong culinary focus and spacious accommodations rather than a giant family-oriented resort ship.

The route

The itinerary moves from Rome and southern Italy into Corfu, Montenegro and three Croatian ports before finishing in Trieste, mixing ancient cities, islands, bays and Adriatic waterfronts.

The adult spaces

Designated clothing-optional areas and the couples-only playroom add experiences you do not get on a standard Oceania sailing, while dining rooms and regular public spaces still follow their own rules.

Official Desire Rome to Trieste Cruise 2028 itinerary map

The verified 2028 itinerary

The complete route was cross-checked against Desire’s current reservation system because part of the public marketing-page itinerary table is carrying stale rows from an older cruise. The sequence below is the current Rome-Trieste 2028 sailing.

  • Saturday, September 9: Civitavecchia / Rome, Italy — embarkation.
  • Sunday, September 10: Salerno, Italy.
  • Monday, September 11: At sea.
  • Tuesday, September 12: Corfu, Greece.
  • Wednesday, September 13: Kotor, Montenegro.
  • Thursday, September 14: Split, Croatia.
  • Friday, September 15: Zadar, Croatia.
  • Saturday, September 16: Trieste, Italy — disembarkation.

Desire has not published port arrival and departure times in the current materials we verified, so we are intentionally not guessing at exact hours.

Day 1: Rome and Civitavecchia

The cruise begins in Civitavecchia, the major cruise port serving Rome. If you are flying internationally, we would strongly consider arriving at least one day before sailing. That is our travel-planning recommendation, not a Desire requirement, but it gives you protection against a delayed flight and time to enjoy Rome before heading to the ship.

Rome gives you an enormous pre-cruise list: the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Vatican City, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel are among the highlights Desire itself calls out. Civitavecchia is outside central Rome, so factor transfer time into embarkation-day planning rather than treating the port like a downtown terminal.

If you add a pre-cruise night, we would use it for Rome rather than trying to fly in and immediately transfer to the ship.

Day 2: Salerno and the Amalfi Coast

Salerno puts you on the Gulf of Salerno with access to one of Italy’s most famous coastal regions. Desire highlights the city’s waterfront promenades and the nearby Amalfi Coast, where cliffside towns, piazzas and steep stairways create a very different day from Rome.

This is the kind of port where you will eventually want to compare official shore excursions with independent plans once Desire or Oceania publishes excursion details and port times. Amalfi, coastal villages and historic Salerno can all compete for the same limited hours.

Because exact 2028 arrival and departure times are not published yet in the materials we verified, this page does not recommend a specific timed excursion.

Day 3: Sea day and the full Desire onboard experience

The sea day is where the ship becomes the destination. Without a port schedule pulling everyone ashore, this is likely to be one of the best days to experience the clothing-optional deck areas, pool programming, workshops, long lunches and the social side of the cruise.

Desire specifically promotes pool parties for this sailing, built around music, drinks and a more energetic daytime atmosphere. The sea day can feel completely different from a standard cruise because so many guests are in the same social spaces at the same time.

It is also a good day to try one of the workshops, make specialty dining fit around your evening plans, or simply leave a few hours unplanned. Lifestyle cruises can create serious FOMO if you try to attend everything.

Our advice is to choose the activities you genuinely care about and leave room for the conversations and spontaneous plans that tend to happen once everyone settles into the week.

Day 4: Corfu, Greece

Corfu adds a Greek island day after the sea day. Desire highlights Corfu Old Town and Achilleion Palace, while the Old Town itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site shaped by centuries of Venetian and Mediterranean influence.

The historic center is known for narrow streets, fortifications and architecture that feels distinctly different from the Italian ports at the beginning of the cruise. If you want a slower day, Corfu also gives you the option to treat the stop as an island day rather than turning every port into a sightseeing marathon.

Once excursion details are released, decide whether your priority is history, coastal scenery or a beach-focused day before committing.

Day 5: Kotor, Montenegro

Kotor may be one of the most visually dramatic arrivals on the itinerary. The old town sits inside the Bay of Kotor beneath steep mountains, and the historic fortified city is part of a UNESCO World Heritage property.

Inside the walls you get stone lanes, churches, squares and preserved medieval architecture. If you want the elevated views above town, the climb is much more physical than simply wandering the old center, so footwear and heat can matter.

Even couples who do not book a formal excursion can get a lot out of Kotor because the historic core itself is compact and atmospheric.

Day 6: Split, Croatia

Split is built around Diocletian’s Palace, the late-Roman imperial complex that became the living center of the modern city. The palace and historic center are UNESCO-listed, but this is not a museum district sealed off from everyday life. Shops, cafés, homes and restaurants are woven directly into the ancient structure.

That makes Split easy to enjoy at different speeds. You can focus on Roman history, spend time on the Riva waterfront, or use the port as a jumping-off point once shore excursions are released.

For a first visit, we would leave enough time simply to walk the palace lanes instead of racing through them between tours.

Day 7: Zadar, Croatia

Zadar is the final port before Trieste and has one of the most distinctive waterfronts on the route. Its Sea Organ turns wave movement into sound through pipes built into the promenade, while the nearby Greeting to the Sun uses a large solar installation as part of the waterfront experience.

The old city also layers Roman remains, medieval churches and cafés inside a compact peninsula. It can be a good final port for couples who want to explore independently without spending the entire day on transportation.

By this point in a lifestyle cruise, a less structured port day can also be welcome if you have been staying out late for the theme parties.

Alternate official Desire Rome-Trieste 2028 route map

Day 8: Trieste, Italy

The cruise ends in Trieste, a northeastern Italian city shaped by its Adriatic location and long Habsburg history. Piazza Unità d’Italia, the Grand Canal, historic cafés and the waterfront give it a very different character from Rome or southern Italy.

Miramare Castle is another major Trieste landmark, built in the nineteenth century for Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian and set above the Adriatic in a large coastal park.

If your schedule allows, this is another place where we would consider a post-cruise night instead of treating disembarkation as nothing more than an airport transfer. That recommendation is ours, not part of the Desire package.

Trieste also gives you several onward-travel possibilities in northern Italy and central Europe, so compare flights and rail options before automatically routing home the same morning.

Official Desire Rome-Trieste 2028 nighttime entertainment image

2028 Desire theme nights

Theme nights are definitely part of this cruise. Desire’s event-specific entertainment page says each evening introduces a new elevated theme designed to transform the ship after dark.

What has not been released yet are the actual 2028 theme names. Desire has used many recognizable themes on previous sailings, but there is no reason to assume those will repeat on Rome-Trieste 2028.

We would not start buying highly specific costumes until Desire publishes the official 2028 list. Once it does, this section can be updated with the exact theme for each night and practical outfit ideas.

What you can plan now

  • Expect a themed party every evening.
  • Bring flexible evening looks that can adapt to different concepts.
  • Plan for elegant-resort dinner attire before the party if your reservation is in a specialty restaurant.
  • Leave luggage room for theme pieces once the official names are announced.

Theme status fact-checked September 5, 2026: themes are confirmed, individual names are not yet published.

Official Desire Rome-Trieste 2028 Sexperts and workshops image

Sexperts, couples workshops and daytime education

Desire’s workshops are one of the things that separates the cruise from simply putting adult parties on a ship. For Rome-Trieste 2028, Desire confirms interactive experiences led by its lifestyle experts, or Sexperts.

The current event page frames the sessions around passion, communication and discovery rather than presenting them as mandatory classes. That gives couples the option to learn something together without making the cruise feel like a seminar schedule.

Exact 2028 workshop titles and presenters are not yet published in the materials we verified, so we are not importing a lineup from another Desire cruise.

For first-time guests, a workshop can also be an easy daytime social setting because you are meeting people around a shared topic rather than trying to start every conversation cold at the pool.

Clothing optional, playroom, privacy and consent

Desire is an adult lifestyle cruise, but it is not an anything-goes environment. The current rules separate designated adult spaces from the rest of the ship and put privacy and consent at the center of the experience.

Clothing-optional and play areas

  • Designated pool and sun-deck areas may be clothing optional.
  • When the ship is near a port, local laws may require clothing; the crew will advise guests when rules change.
  • The playroom is couples only.
  • Sexual activity is limited to the designated playroom rather than general public areas of the ship.
  • Restaurants and other non-clothing-optional public spaces require appropriate attire.
  • The cruise minimum age is 21.

Consent and privacy

  • No means no. Respect boundaries and never assume participation.
  • Photography and video are strictly prohibited in clothing-optional areas and in the playroom.
  • In other ship areas, photography is allowed only when it respects the privacy of surrounding guests.
  • Official event photography is handled with consent.
  • Drug use is prohibited.
  • Guests are asked to keep hallway noise down after midnight.
  • Desire’s house rules apply in addition to Oceania rules and local laws in each port.
Oceania Allura, ship scheduled for Desire Rome-Trieste 2028

Oceania Allura: the ship behind the experience

Allura is one of Oceania Cruises’ newest ships, delivered in 2025. Official Oceania information lists approximately 68,000 gross tons, 605 suites and staterooms and capacity for about 1,200 guests at double occupancy.

That size is important. Allura is large enough to have multiple restaurants, lounges and distinct social spaces but much smaller than today’s 4,000-to-7,000-passenger megaships. On a Desire week, that can make the ship feel more connected because you keep running into the same people throughout the cruise.

Oceania positions Allura heavily around culinary quality, and Desire layers the adult entertainment, pool programming, workshops and lifestyle spaces onto that luxury-cruise base.

Allura fast facts

  • Year built: 2025.
  • Gross tonnage: approximately 68,000.
  • Guest capacity: approximately 1,200 at double occupancy.
  • Suites and staterooms: 605.
  • Guest decks: Desire lists 11 guest decks.
  • Cruise line: Oceania Cruises.
  • Ship: Allura, subject to cruise-line operational changes.

Published Oceania and Desire sources do not agree perfectly on Allura’s exact length, so we intentionally left that number out rather than choosing one conflicting figure.

Dining on Desire Rome-Trieste 2028

One of the biggest upgrades from many adult charter experiences is the culinary platform underneath this cruise. The 2028 Desire dining page lists a wide mix of included restaurants, casual venues and specialty dining aboard Allura.

Restaurants and casual dining

  • The Grand Dining Room: European and global cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • Jacques: French dining at dinner; reservations required.
  • Polo Grill: classic steakhouse at dinner; reservations required.
  • Toscana: Italian specialty dining at dinner; reservations required.
  • Terrace Café: international breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • Aquamar Kitchen: Mediterranean-inspired wellness dining for breakfast and lunch.
  • Waves Grill: poolside lunch and afternoon dining.
  • Baristas: complimentary illy coffee, pastries and savory bites from morning into early evening.

Bars, beverages and room service

  • Prestige Select Beverage Package: listed as included, covering a broad selection of premium drinks, cocktails, wines and spirits subject to package terms.
  • 24-hour room service: included.
  • Founders Bar: cocktails and spirits.
  • Horizons: panoramic lounge.
  • Martinis: cocktail-focused lounge.
  • Grand Lounge: social lounge space.
  • Waves Bar: poolside drinks.

Package exclusions can include bottles of wine, private in-room minibar items, tobacco, specialty food items and private-dining cover charges. Review the current terms before assuming every premium item is included.

Private dining and special experiences

Privée and La Reserve offer more intimate dining and wine experiences for small groups, with reservations and additional charges. Desire’s current page describes Privée as seating up to eight guests.

Dress code and dietary requests

During the day, Oceania uses a resort or country-club casual approach. In the evening, elegant resort wear is the standard in restaurants. Desire specifically advises against casual jeans, shorts, T-shirts, sneakers and baseball caps in restaurants after 6 PM, with Terrace Café as the more casual exception for caps.

The cruise can accommodate several dietary needs, including gluten-free, lactose-free, kosher, vegetarian, vegan and diabetic requests. Desire asks guests with special dietary needs to submit requests at least 90 days before sailing.

Desire Rome-Trieste 2028 cabins and current rates

The prices below were listed on the current Desire Rome-Trieste 2028 cabin page when this guide was fact-checked on September 5, 2026. Rates are shown per cabin in U.S. dollars based on double occupancy. Availability and promotional pricing can change.

  • Penthouse Suite: $15,999 promotional rate, reduced from $19,249; current savings $3,250.
  • Concierge Level Veranda, Decks 11/12: $11,799 promotional rate, reduced from $14,749; current savings $2,950.
  • Concierge Level Veranda: $10,699 promotional rate, reduced from $12,749; current savings $2,050.

  • Vista Suite: $38,599 regular listed rate; waiting list / sold out.
  • Oceania Suite: $26,299 regular listed rate; waiting list / sold out.
  • French Veranda: $10,349 listed rate; sold out.

The cabin page can change as guests cancel, upgrade or move between categories. Always use the live Desire page if a specific suite matters to you.

Additional 2028 cruise surcharges

The displayed cabin rates do not include the event’s separate per-person surcharge. Desire’s current Rome-Trieste rate page lists:

  • Owner’s, Vista, Oceania and Penthouse Suites: $525 USD per person.
  • Concierge Veranda Decks 11/12, Concierge Veranda, Veranda Stateroom and French Veranda: $450 USD per person.

Desire says this surcharge covers port charges, taxes, document fees, prepaid gratuities, administrative costs and security fees.

This is why we would not calculate the final cruise cost from the headline cabin price alone.

What the final cruise package includes

Desire’s current cruise information and 2028 pages identify a substantial list of onboard inclusions. Confirm the final package at booking, but current materials include:

  • The cabin category selected.
  • Oceania dining in the included restaurants and casual venues.
  • Prestige Select Beverage Package for this sailing.
  • 24-hour room service.
  • Basic Wi-Fi access.
  • Theme nights and pool parties.
  • Workshops and seminars.
  • Playroom access for eligible couples.
  • Port charges, taxes and prepaid gratuities accounted for through the separate 2028 surcharge.

What your Allura stateroom includes

Allura’s standard cabin amenities are already considerably more upscale than a typical mass-market cruise cabin. Desire’s current 2028 cabin page lists:

  • Oceania’s Tranquility Bed.
  • Complimentary soft drinks.
  • Still and sparkling Vero water.
  • Bvlgari bath amenities.
  • 24-hour room service.
  • Twice-daily housekeeping.
  • Belgian chocolates with nightly turndown.
  • Interactive television.
  • Wireless internet access.
  • Cotton towels, robes and slippers.
  • Hair dryer.
  • In-room safe.

Why upgraded categories matter

  • Oceania Suite: approximately 970-1,170 sq. ft. plus a 180-530 sq. ft. veranda, with 24-hour butler service and added suite privileges.
  • Vista Suite: approximately 1,450-1,850 sq. ft. plus a 640-950 sq. ft. veranda.
  • Owner’s Suite: approximately 2,230-2,400 sq. ft. plus a 660-750 sq. ft. veranda.
  • Concierge Veranda Decks 11/12: about 300 sq. ft. plus a 50-90 sq. ft. veranda, with Concierge benefits.
  • Concierge Veranda: about 291 sq. ft. plus a 50-210 sq. ft. veranda.
  • Concierge benefits can include priority specialty dining, Aquamar Spa Terrace access, welcome Champagne, laundry allowances and other enhancements.

Exact dimensions and benefits should be checked against the live category page when you book because cruise-line specifications and amenity packages can change.

Deposit and payment schedule

The current Desire reservation system lays out the payment schedule well in advance, which can make a 2028 sailing easier to budget.

Initial deposit

The current booking system lists a $1,000 USD deposit for staterooms and a $2,000 USD deposit for suites.

March 8, 2027

25% of the cruise balance is scheduled by Monday, March 8, 2027.

September 6, 2027

Another 25% is scheduled by Monday, September 6, 2027.

January 10, 2028

Another 25% is scheduled by Monday, January 10, 2028.

Final payment

The final 25% is scheduled for Monday, May 8, 2028. The live booking terms control the reservation, so confirm the current schedule when you purchase.

Desire also warns that some banks may treat payments as international transactions and charge their own fees. Travel insurance is worth considering for a cruise this far in advance, especially once international flights and pre/post-cruise hotels are added.

Planning tips from Unchained Travel

  • Arrive in Rome early: we would personally plan at least one pre-cruise night for an international embarkation.
  • Do not fly home too tightly from Trieste: compare post-cruise rail and hotel options before automatically booking an early flight.
  • Do not overbook shore excursions: six destination days plus nightly Desire events can become exhausting.
  • Make specialty dining work around party nights: a long dinner can overlap with events you care about.
  • Use the sea day: it is your best chance to experience the ship without feeling pulled toward a port.
  • Expect FOMO: choose what matters most instead of trying to attend every workshop, pool event, dinner and late-night activity.
