If you are flying internationally, we would strongly consider arriving at least one day before sailing. That is our travel-planning recommendation, not a Desire requirement, but it gives you protection against a delayed flight and time to enjoy Rome before heading to the ship.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nRome gives you an enormous pre-cruise list: the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Vatican City, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel are among the highlights Desire itself calls out. Civitavecchia is outside central Rome, so factor transfer time into embarkation-day planning rather than treating the port like a downtown terminal.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nIf you add a pre-cruise night, we would use it for Rome rather than trying to fly in and immediately transfer to the ship.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Day 2: Salerno and the Amalfi Coast<\/h3>\n\n\n\n \nSalerno puts you on the Gulf of Salerno with access to one of Italy’s most famous coastal regions. Desire highlights the city’s waterfront promenades and the nearby Amalfi Coast, where cliffside towns, piazzas and steep stairways create a very different day from Rome.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nThis is the kind of port where you will eventually want to compare official shore excursions with independent plans once Desire or Oceania publishes excursion details and port times. Amalfi, coastal villages and historic Salerno can all compete for the same limited hours.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 3: Sea day and the full Desire onboard experience<\/h3>\n\n\n\n \nThe sea day is where the ship becomes the destination. Without a port schedule pulling everyone ashore, this is likely to be one of the best days to experience the clothing-optional deck areas, pool programming, workshops, long lunches and the social side of the cruise.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nDesire specifically promotes pool parties for this sailing, built around music, drinks and a more energetic daytime atmosphere. The sea day can feel completely different from a standard cruise because so many guests are in the same social spaces at the same time.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nIt is also a good day to try one of the workshops, make specialty dining fit around your evening plans, or simply leave a few hours unplanned. Lifestyle cruises can create serious FOMO if you try to attend everything.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 4: Corfu, Greece<\/h3>\n\n\n\n \nCorfu adds a Greek island day after the sea day. Desire highlights Corfu Old Town and Achilleion Palace, while the Old Town itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site shaped by centuries of Venetian and Mediterranean influence.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nThe historic center is known for narrow streets, fortifications and architecture that feels distinctly different from the Italian ports at the beginning of the cruise. If you want a slower day, Corfu also gives you the option to treat the stop as an island day rather than turning every port into a sightseeing marathon.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nOnce excursion details are released, decide whether your priority is history, coastal scenery or a beach-focused day before committing.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Day 5: Kotor, Montenegro<\/h3>\n\n\n\n \nKotor may be one of the most visually dramatic arrivals on the itinerary. The old town sits inside the Bay of Kotor beneath steep mountains, and the historic fortified city is part of a UNESCO World Heritage property.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nInside the walls you get stone lanes, churches, squares and preserved medieval architecture. If you want the elevated views above town, the climb is much more physical than simply wandering the old center, so footwear and heat can matter.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nEven couples who do not book a formal excursion can get a lot out of Kotor because the historic core itself is compact and atmospheric.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Day 6: Split, Croatia<\/h3>\n\n\n\n \nSplit is built around Diocletian’s Palace, the late-Roman imperial complex that became the living center of the modern city. The palace and historic center are UNESCO-listed, but this is not a museum district sealed off from everyday life. Shops, caf\u00e9s, homes and restaurants are woven directly into the ancient structure.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nThat makes Split easy to enjoy at different speeds. You can focus on Roman history, spend time on the Riva waterfront, or use the port as a jumping-off point once shore excursions are released.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nFor a first visit, we would leave enough time simply to walk the palace lanes instead of racing through them between tours.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Day 7: Zadar, Croatia<\/h3>\n\n\n\n \nZadar is the final port before Trieste and has one of the most distinctive waterfronts on the route. Its Sea Organ turns wave movement into sound through pipes built into the promenade, while the nearby Greeting to the Sun uses a large solar installation as part of the waterfront experience.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nThe old city also layers Roman remains, medieval churches and caf\u00e9s inside a compact peninsula. It can be a good final port for couples who want to explore independently without spending the entire day on transportation.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nBy this point in a lifestyle cruise, a less structured port day can also be welcome if you have been staying out late for the theme parties.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Day 8: Trieste, Italy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n \nThe cruise ends in Trieste, a northeastern Italian city shaped by its Adriatic location and long Habsburg history. Piazza Unit\u00e0 d’Italia, the Grand Canal, historic caf\u00e9s and the waterfront give it a very different character from Rome or southern Italy.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nMiramare Castle is another major Trieste landmark, built in the nineteenth century for Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian and set above the Adriatic in a large coastal park.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nIf your schedule allows, this is another place where we would consider a post-cruise night instead of treating disembarkation as nothing more than an airport transfer. That recommendation is ours, not part of the Desire package.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nTrieste also gives you several onward-travel possibilities in northern Italy and central Europe, so compare flights and rail options before automatically routing home the same morning.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

2028 Desire theme nights<\/h3>\n\n\n\n \nTheme nights are definitely part of this cruise. Desire’s event-specific entertainment page says each evening introduces a new elevated theme designed to transform the ship after dark.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nWhat has not been released yet are the actual 2028 theme names. Desire has used many recognizable themes on previous sailings, but there is no reason to assume those will repeat on Rome-Trieste 2028.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nWe would not start buying highly specific costumes until Desire publishes the official 2028 list. Once it does, this section can be updated with the exact theme for each night and practical outfit ideas.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
